Galaxy Tab S9 series display & battery specs revealed

11 months ago 45

In April, a rumor surfaced that Samsung is planning to equip the smallest Galaxy Tab S9 model with an AMOLED display. A tipster has now reiterated this claim. According to Ahmed Qwaider, who has often been on point with his Samsung leaks, the entire Galaxy Tab S9 lineup will get Dynamic AMOLED 2X displays.

Samsung’s S-series flagship tablets have featured AMOLED displays since the first-gen model in 2014. But the past two generations (Tab S7 and Tab S8) of Galaxy tablets included a base model with an LCD screen. The company equipped bigger models (Plus and Ultra) with an AMOLED display but gave an LCD screen to the smallest one to make it more affordable.

This year, it’s treating all three models the same, at least in the display department. The Galaxy Tab S9, Galaxy Tab  S9+, and Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra will all feature Dynamic AMOLED 2X displays, likely with a 120Hz resolution. Samsung may not upgrade to 144Hz, and there’s no reason why it would drop below 120Hz. The screen size and resolution will also remain unchanged from last year. The three tablets get screens measuring 11-inch, 12.4-inch, and 14.6-inch diagonally, respectively.

Samsung will seemingly keep the battery capacity unchanged as well. Like last year, it will pack an 8,000mAh battery inside the base model, a 10,090mAh battery in the Plus model, and an 11,200mAH battery in the Ultra model. The new tablets will also retain 45W of maximum wired charging speed. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 “for Galaxy” processor may bring improvements to the battery life, though. Samsung used this chip in the Galaxy S23 series globally and battery life gains are quite noticeable.

The Galaxy Tab S9 series will bring more upgrades

An AMOLED display for the base model isn’t the only major upgrade Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S9 series will bring to the table. Rumors are that the company will offer an official IP rating for dust and water resistance this year. All three models are expected to feature an IP67 rating, a first for flagship Galaxy tablets. Additionally, Samsung will upgrade to LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage, except for the 128GB storage variant. It doesn’t make 128GB UFS 4.0 storage chips.

There haven’t been many talks about the cameras and S Pen latency of the Galaxy Tab S9 series. Samsung used the same cameras across the lineup last year, but the Ultra model has a much lower S Pen latency of just 2.8ms. The other two tablets have a latency of 6.2ms. It remains to be seen whether the upcoming models get any improvements there. With the launch just over a month away, leaks about the Galaxy Tab S9 series may come more frequently now. We will keep you posted.
